Insikter bränner inga kalorier men insikter påverkar ibland ens beteende i rätt riktning.

Lower BMI if you read my blog?

I have previously written about how the current obesity epidemic can be attributed to people not being biologically adapted to modern society. Many are too inactive and unable to resist overeating. I have also written that I believe that obesity is mainly due to overeating and not due to lack of exercise. A lousy diet may in fact never be compensated by exercise. A new study published in Psychological Science supports my argument.

Initially, the researchers behind the study, examined what people felt were the causes of obesity. The two most common responses were obviously: 1) lack of exercise 2) poor diet. These two responses were about equally common. Furthermore, researchers found that those who believed that a poor diet caused obesity had lower BMI than those who believed that obesity was caused by a lack of exercise. Particularly interesting was that the perception of what obesity is caused by had a greater impact on weight profile than factors such as class, age, education, various medical conditions and sleep habits.

Exercise is good for health in many ways, But if you want to lose weight, it is the over-eating that must be overcome. Unfortunately, this is the tricky part. But do not despair, the study show that this insight alone is associated with a lower BMI. Since you are reading the blog that hopefully will not make you more stupid you have already taken a step in the right direction.
